Critical illness cover is a type of policy which pays a tax free lump sum in the event of being diagnosed with a critical illness. A list of conditions covered in critical illness polices include; Cancer, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Heart Attack or Stroke.

The benefit paid out can be used for:

  • Paying off some or all your mortgage balance.

  • Covering every day expenses including your rent or mortgage payments.

  • Private health care costs.

  • Adaptations to your home to make life easier for you, for example a wet room.

  • A family holiday to spend time with your loved ones.

Most critical illness policies also include children’s critical illness at no extra cost.

As there are some policies on the market that are significantly more comprehensive than others, it is crucial to get expert advice when considering critical illness cover.

There may be a broker fee payable. See more on the Lifetime Fee Scheme.
